On my newest adventure I am traveling with my grandma, aunt, and cousin on a Globus tour of Iceland. My grandmother has wanted to go to Iceland for years and she finally decided to go and luckily took some of us with her!
I left Chicago on the 4th of July and met up with the rest of my family at JFK Airport where we then headed to Iceland. Because it was a tour, there was a lady and a group of people waiting at the exit for us. We took the bus to the hotel in town where we freshened up.
Driving through Reykjavik to the hotel I was a little surprised at the landscape and architecture. The land is more flat than I thought it would be but you can see the mountains in the distance.
I was a little disappointed at the architecture as we drove. The majority of things are very square and linear and are all very similar looking. I did notice though that once we started walking through the town there were tiny details with the use of materials and they square foems were created. I also loved the interiors of restaurants and the little boutique stores.
We took the bus into the “downtown” area and wandered around. My cousin Chris had heard of a flea market that was in the town so we walked toward that. It was called Kolaportid and it was a huge indoor space with tons of little stands. It was a very cool spot to check out and had some great souvenir options for much cheaper than the touristy stores on the main roads.
After walking around we stopped at a little restaurant and grabbed some Viking beer which is brewed in Iceland. After our drinks we headed back to the hotel to meet up with the rest of the tour group and to have dinner (which was included in the price of the tour). The group is 40 people from all over the world, mainly the US, and mainly much older than Chris and I. After dinner we headed back to the room because we were all full and exhausted!
Sorry for the lack of pictures everyone but I was a little exhausted and forgot o need to take pictures on my phone for the blog. We end the tour in this town so I will take more pictures then! Stay tuned!!
Wow! You got a lot done for the first day after no sleep! I hope you and chris can keep up with the tour group!!! Take good care of my momma!

There are amazing 360 degree views from the top of the Hallgrímskirkja, sunset by the Sun Voyager sculpture on the shore is breathtaking and the National Museum of Iceland has a great collection of cultural artefacts that are absolutely fascinating. Grab some seafood down by the Old Harbour and just spend your time wandering around.

Oh and don’t worry about the lack of scenery for now. Twenty minutes out of Reykjavik and the landscape will blow your socks off! 🙂
