Day 13 (7/9/14)
Today we did the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb which was the only thing we planned for on our visit to Sydney. Everything else we have been winging it in the city. I was so excited for the climb and everything I read on it made it seem woryh all the money it cost and a must-do in Sydney. My mom and I had an awesome time and it really is an incredible experience!!!! The view as you walk to the top is unlike anything I could have expected. Our guide was great and made the whole thing even more enjoyable by cracking jokes with us and even telling us a ton of facts about the city and the bridge itself. The only bummer is that you can’t take your camera up and they charge you for the photos which I think is pretty lame since the thing cost $250 a person. But other than that I felt it was worth saving up and doing it.
Once we made it back on solid ground we took the ferry to Manly Beach. Everyone kept telling us that they had the nicest beach in Sydney and it wasn’t as touristy as Bondi Beach. The ferry ride out was awesome and we could see the opera house and bridge perfectly. We also saw a ton of sail boats in the bay as well. Once we got to Manly Beach we were starving since the bridge climb was 3 hours and the ferry ride was 30 minutes so it was already 3 pm. We ate then got ice cream as we walked down the beach. I was born amd raised in Miami but Australia has some beautiful beaches. The sand is so white and soft and the water no matter where we go (even in the busy harbour) is always a clear deep cobalt blue. I also love watching the waves crash ashore or on the rocks.
We walked around Manly until the sun set and then took the ferry back to downtown Sydney. I recommend paying the $14 and taking the ferry just so you can see the whole harbour at once, it’s a fantastic view that you can only get from afar.
